![]() Each novel will culminate with a project to showcase different concepts such as character development, plot arcs, and summary. Literature: Throughout the year, students will read four exceptional novels: Island of the Blue Dolphins, Caddie Woodlawn, Pippi Longstocking, and By the Great Horn Spoon. Our biggest project will be our California Mission model and report! Students will get to take part in several field trips that compliment various of the aforementioned topics. We will study the Native American populations, the Missions, Ranchos, the Gold Rush, railroads and the Industrial Revolution, and much more. Social Studies: California’s history and geography is our focus in fourth grade. This will be the first year that students will complete an at-home science project and report for our school Science Fair! From forces and energy, to the moon and Earth’s oceans, we will see how God has intentionally and precisely made everything around us to bring Him glory. Science: Underlying everything we will study this year is the magnificence of the Lord’s creation. We will analyze different parts of speech, learn about the components of an excellent research report, and practice reading for understanding. Grammar: We will build upon students’ foundation of language and writing skills to improve their reading comprehension as well as their written communication. We will drill our multiplication facts (x1 through x12) weekly, as fourth graders should be comfortable with these within the first few weeks of school. Math: There are many mathematical concepts students will master this year, including but not limited to multi-digit multiplication and division, fractions, common factors, and measurements. We will memorize Bible verses on a weekly basis and take part in daily class prayer.
